Voters approve two school capital projects Ashburnham voters approved two capital articles for the regional school district with a wide margin on June 20. Voters approved of raising $150,000 to cover the cost of a capital plan developed by school officials. The vote was 224 in favor and 140 against. The voters also approved 218 to 145 a proposal to raise money to reconstruct the athletic field and track at Oakmont Regional High School and the parking lot at Overlook Middle School if funding allows. Westminster voters also approved the money for the capital plan and town officials approved of the field/parking lot project through a different funding mechanism. So the projects will move forward. Voters also approve a debt exclusion for the purchase of and equipping a fire engine by only two votes. The fire truck was bought last year and this measure allows the town not to build the cost into the operating budget. The vote was 183 in favor, 181 against and five ballots were left blank. Voters also approved a ballot question allowing town officials to raise additional money, $170,000, for the road and sidewalk repairs and maintenance. Only 369 voters turned out for the election. |
