Rotary round-up: News of the AshburnhamWestminster Rotary Club The annual club-sponsored golf tournament enjoyed beautiful weather on July 24 and raised several thousand dollars for the club's scholarship fund. The final accounting is now underway. Many thanks to all the local individuals and businesses that helped to make this event a success by their contributions and/or participation. The speaker at our July 19 meeting was District Governor Suzanne Comer. She discussed both the international and local projects that Rotary is supporting this year. In addition to its continuing support for the world-wide campaign to eradicate polio, Rotary International President Bill Boyd is urging Rotarians to focus on projects that promote the distribution of clean water in the developing countries. Comer also described the Gift of Life program that brings children from other countries to Mass General Hospital for cardiac surgery. A donation of $5,000 provides a child and a family member transportation and a place to stay the doctors donate their time and skill. A similar project provides funding for doctors from UMass Medical Center in Worcester to train doctors from Third World countries in the use of EKG and similar equipment. Our thanks to Comer for her comprehensive and informative talk. Don't forget Westminster Town Benefit Day on Sunday, Aug. 13. Our club will help with the parking. Please keep us busy by bringing the whole family to support this worthy cause.
