Local ladies are dancing in Scotland arts festival
Two young women from Ashby and Townsend

are dancing in what's considered the largest arts festival in the world.

Clare Curran, of Townsend, and Amy Reggio, of Ashby, together with 15 fellow Lawrence Academy students are performing in Scotland beginning Aug. 18, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The troupe will present four performances

of a 50-minute original

choreography titled "Upon Close Inspection".

Now in its 60th year, the arts festival sold more than 1.3 million tickets last year and had more than 735 groups participated putting on 1,800 different shows with a total of 26,995 performances in 247 venues.

The young ladies will be accompanied by Lawrence Academy's

dance instructor B r i a n

Feigenbaum, A d r i e n n e Fadjo, a 1997 graduate of the school who is currently a New York-based choreographer/dancer, and Adam Mendelson, formerly the school's technical director, who will be assisted by senior James Macon.

The Fringe story began in 1947, when the Edinburgh International Festival was launched. It was seen as a postwar initiative to reunite Europe through culture, and was so successful that it inspired more performers than there was room for.

This is the second time that Groton's Lawrence Academy has sent a dance troupe to perform at the worldrenowned performing arts festival.
