Four students attend leadership conference

The four students from Oakmont Regional High School Student Council that attended the leadership conference were: (l-r) Katelyn Spurr, Jill Davis, Angela Marini and Keli Poirier.
Four members of the Oakmont Regional High School Student Council attended a leadership conference sponsored by the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (MASC) and the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association (MSSAA).

Katelyn Spurr (president), Angela Marini (delegate), Jill Davis (vice president) and Keli Poirier (treasurer) participated in the one-week, co-circular conference at Stonehill College, in Easton.

At the conference, students learned, practiced and applied leadership fundamentals. The varied curriculum included practical training in goal setting, organization, group process, team building, communication and evaluation, to name a few.

Conference Co-Directors Vincent Crossman and Michele LeBlanc spoke very highly of the Oakmont delegates.

"These delegates represented Oakmont Regional High School very well, and really excelled in our program" said Crossman.

LeBlanc concurred. "I was equally impressed by their commitment to better themselves as leaders and individuals," he said.

The Oakmont Student Council advisor, R. Lincoln Stiles Jr. noted, "The leadership skills students learn at camp is an excellent benefit to the students, Oakmont Regional, and the communities of Ashburnham and Westminster. These students truly are leaders for our future.

The MASC Leadership Conference is held each summer at Stonehill. It is open to student leaders in grades 911. For more information, visit www.masctuco.net.
