MEETING MATTERS
Board of Selectmen August 18, 2006
Compiled by Caitlyn Kelleher
Top Story:

Selectmen voted to turn Whitcomb Street, which runs in front of Spaulding Memorial School into a one way street.

Selectmen hope to improve the safety on this small roadway, which is also used for bus parking at the school.

"Time is of the essence," said Board Chairman Robert Plamondon.

The move still needs approval from the state Department of Transportation because the road intersects with Route 119. But Town Administrator Gregory Barnes said he had already received a preliminary approval for the move.

"They want it to go away from 119," Barnes said.

Barnes said he will direct the highway department to install signs on the roadway altering residents as soon as they receive approval from the state officials.

The selectmen's goal is to have the matter resolved before the first day of school on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

In Other News:

He requested the attendance of fire chiefs Brenton MacAloney of Westminster, William Seymour Jr. of Ashby, Scott Glenny of Lunenburg and Allen LaFrennie of Winchendon.

Selectmen postponed signing the agreement to provide advance life support service ambulance coverage to Groton until the finance committee had a chance to review the new contract.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
