Police arrested break-in suspect during walk across country Westminster Police arrested a man for allegedly breaking into the Bread of Life Church, on Route 2A, while he was on his way from Maine to Colorado. Freddy Milburn Cook, 31, of 316 Georgia Private Drive, Fort Collins, Colo., is charged with: breaking and entering daytime for misdemeanor and destruction of property. Cook had been walking from Main to Colorado. Police Officer Jason Wertherbee responded to the church's burglar alarm around 3:30 p.m., Thursday, on Aug.17, and he observed a window screen to have been damaged and a window was open. Wetherbee then saw a man walking on State Road East in the area of Route 2A and the Route 2 overpass, according to police reports. Westminster Police Sgt. Edward Robbins and Lt. Mike McDonald then had a conversation with the man on East Main Street while Det. Jeffrey Shampine and Wetherbee searched and secured the church and processed the crime scene. Police observed small white particles on the suspect's arm during the conversation. These particles were consistent with plaster dust found on the windowsill where entry into the church had been gained, according to police. As a result of this evidence and conversation with Cook, he was placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed nothing had been taken from the church as the alarm system was activated upon entry through the window. Cook also had a felony warrant form the state of Washington. - Submitted to The Journal |
