Council On Aging September events calendar Blood Pressure Clinic There will be a free Blood Pressure Clinic Wednesday, Sept. 6, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome MOC reminder This is a reminder for the congregate meals, you need to call MOC by 11 a.m. the day before to reserve a lunch. To all the Meals on Wheels clients, the drivers can be delivering meals any time between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. With the increase of clients, the drivers will not always have the same time schedule. News from the SHINE Prescription Advantage, the state sponsored prescription drug program, has announced that there will be an open enrollment beginning on Sept. 15 and continuing until Nov. 15. This will coincide with the Medicare Part D Open Enrollment that will begin Nov. 15 through Dec. 31. For both of these Open Enrollments the coverage will be effective Jan. 1, 2007 These two programs can help people on Medicare A and/or B to pay for prescription drugs. If you haven't looked into either of these programs yet, now will be a good times. Once the open enrollment ends, the next opportunity won't be until Nov. 15, If you need help or have a question about these Open Enrollments, please contact you local senior center to make an appointment with a SHINE counselor or call us at (800) 234-4636 option #2. Fall Festival The annual Fall Festival will be held at Saint Edward's Church, 10 Church St., Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. There will be great food, attic treasures, games, crafts, and baked goods, so bring the whole family, bargains for everyone Free senior yoga classes There are free senior yoga classes, held every Wednesday through the month of September, at 23 Village Inn Road, Westminster. The classes start at 8:30-9:30 a.m. Please call (978) 874-6200 to reserve a seat. Council on Aging breakfast A Council on Aging breakfast will be held Friday, Oct. 6, with serving starting at 8 a.m. The Mixed Media Collage class will have their paintings on display during our breakfast. This program has been funded by The Westminster Cultural Council. Senior Center fair The Westminster Friends of the Senior Center Fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The friends group is looking for volunteers and items for the tables. Some of the items needed are for the craft table, bake table, non-perishable items for the food basket, also items for the Chinese auction table. If you need more information or would like to donate items please call the Council On Aging at (978) 8747402. Senior financial workshop Presented by John Huck, president of Huck financial Services. We are going to hold a workshop on financial strategies on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. Some of the topics will be on IRA's Tazes, Probate issues, please call to reserve a seat. This will be held at the Senior Center. Westminster Art Show The "Circle of Artists" plans an art exhibit and sale for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12, at the Senior Center, located at the AMVETS Building. Westminster artists are invited to submit one or two pieces for this show. Also, the "Circle of Artists" plan to work with Oakmont High School art teachers to select ten students to display their work. All members of the "Circle of Artists" will also exhibit in this show. Due to space constraints, work must be limited in size and not exceed 36 inches in any direction. The reception for the show will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 4-6 p.m., and will feature music and refreshments. Hours for the exhibit will be on Saturday, Nov. 11 from noon to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 12 from noon to 4 p.m. Applications will be available by Aug. 21 and may be picked up at the Westminster Library, Town Hall, and Senior Center or call Virginia Krul at (978) 874-0375. All applications must be submitted by Sept. 1. |
