FSC will host run/walk in local man's memory

Fitchburg State College is hosting the inaugural Bob Wilson 5K Run/Walk to benefit scholarship funds established in Wilson's memory. The event takes place Oct. 29, during Fitchburg State's homecoming weekend. weekend.

Wilson, an Ashburnham resident who passed away in 2005, worked at Fitchburg State for 19 years as a photographer and as a media coordinator as well as within the Information Technology Department.

Additionally, Wilson worked as a photographer in the United States Army, as a photographer for the Omaha World-Herald, as a news cameraman at Omaha's KMTV, as a radio news reporter, and later in the corporate video production field.

For many years, Wilson was also an active volunteer and a member of the Board of Directors for Fitchburg Access Television. He was very instrumental in the start up of that organization. He strongly believed in supporting his community and enjoyed helping others when he could do so. His life was enriched with every moment that he dedicated to his family, to his friends, and to his community. His laugh, his smile, and his enthusiasm will always be missed.

"It's my hope that this race will be the start of something that not only helps students, but that it will be something that helps to keep Bob's smile and his compassion alive in our memory," said Tina Wilson, who was married to Bob for seven y e a r s .

About the Race

The race starts at the Elliot Field track at Fitchburg State College. The 5k Walk will begin at 12:15 p.m. and the 5k Run will begin at 1 p.m. Participants can register online or print a registration form at http://www.bobwilsonfund. com. About the Scholarships The fund provides scholarships, through Fitchburg State College and Fitchburg Access Television, to communications and broadcast students attending Fitchburg State and Mount Wachusett Community College.

One scholarship will be awarded to a returning Fitchburg State College photography or film/video student.

The other is sponsored by Fitchburg Access Television and will go to an incoming freshman at either Fitchburg State College or Mount Wachusett Community College.
