Village Theatre announces advanced youth workshops
"The REP is a select group of performers, who have exhibited an advanced aptitude and a strong commitment to the theatre arts," described Christopher Chew, artistic director, who heads the theatre's youth programs. The group will meet twice monthly, on the first and third Monday evenings, from 6-9 p.m. These master classes will be conducted by Chew, along with other professional actors, directors and musical directors. Chew explains the intent behind the program, emphasizing that it will "provide the tools needed individually and collectively by ensemble members as they develop their skills as artists." On a rotating basis, workshops focus on topics including Shakespeare, vocal techniques, stage physicality and Commedia dell'Arte. Performance opportunities will be a regular part of The REP program as well - during the 2005-2006 season, REP members performed at Village Theatre Project's professional performances, in Groton and Harvard. The REP is open to high-school aged participants by audition only. Auditions are scheduled Monday, Sept. 18, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Groton Senior Center, located at 163 West Main St. (Route 225), West Groton. Auditioners should prepare a dramatic or comic monologue of their choice, of one minute or less. While a song is not required, auditioners may prepare one if they choose. Fees for the program, if cast, are $110 per month; partial scholarships are available. To schedule an audition appointment, please e-mail info@thevtp.org or call (978) 456-7898; or visit www.thevtp.org for more information about Village Theatre Project's youth programs. - Submitted to The Journal |
