Bowen announces candidacy for Register of Deeds seat
Bowen, an attorney with a law practice in Fitchburg, is running as the R e p u b l i c a n candidate. "For over 30 years, I have r e p r e s e n t e d buyers, sellers and lenders in real estate transactions," said Bowen. "I have conducted title examinations and recorded documents in many Massachusetts r e g i s t r i e s , including thousands of hours working in the Fitchburg Registry. I have extensive first hand experience in how registries operate." Bowen grew up in Fitchburg, graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, and received a Master of Business Administration from Dartmouth College and a Juris Doctorate from Boston University School of Law. He has worked for General Electric Company and General Tire and Rubber Company in Maryland. He has practiced law in Fitchburg since 1973. He is currently Westminster Town Moderator and served as Chairman of the Westminster Board of Zoning Appeals for various terms from 1974 to 2003. He was president of Whalom Park Amusement Company from 1975 to 1998. "With my business experience and my real estate experience, I am the most qualified candidate for the position of Register of Deeds," Bowen said. "The Registry processes and maintains records of all real estate transactions and activity for F i t c h b u r g , L e o m i n s t e r , Lunenburg, Ashburnham and Westminster. It is also a business entity with operational and financial components that are tied into state government. Its "customers" are the local citizens, the municipalities it serves and legal and financial professionals, all of whom rely on accuracy in its record keeping and need efficiency and ease of access to those records. The Register is the one in charge who must manage and balance all levels of activity in order to maintain the smooth operation that is vital to the communities and to the residents. My background is the perfect fit for the position." Bowen is married to the former Elizabeth Lewis from Leominster. They have three daughters and two grandchildren. Richard H. Letarte of Lunenburg is treasurer of the campaign committee. - Submitted to The Journal |
