Town has two positions to fill

Town officials are looking for a new veteran's agent after Norm Richard announced his retirement.

Richard held the part-time position that helps veterans navigate their way through federal and state programs, help disperse benefits and provide other services for more than 23 years, said Town Administrator Gregory Barnes.

We are obligated (under state law) to assist veterans in a variety of ways," Barnes said. "He helps to administrate those."

Richard also helped to recognize the accomplishment of veterans within the town.

"He provides comprehensives services," Barnes said.

Applicants must be a veteran, according to the state law. The position also requires weekly office hours and then when issues arise.

Barnes said it translates to several hours a week. The town has budgeted a stipend up to $7,264 a year for the position.

A candidate with communication, organization, and computer skills is preferred, Barnes said.

The other position is the town is looking to fill is the conservation agent, which is also a part-time position, Barnes said.

This person would work 20 hours a week and be responsible for the administrative enforcement of the state Wetland Protection Act and the local environmental bylaws.

So for Barnes has receive about five applications but they are hoping to get more.

"Our agent left after a few years to pursue a more lucrative opportunity," Barnes said.

In this position town officials are looking for someone with two years of professional experience and an associates degree in environmental science or a related field but an applicant with a bachelors degree is preferred.

"In both case computer skills, communication skills are positive," Barnes said.
