Ashburnham fallball players take the field in a split performance in first games of season

The Ashburnham Major League Fallball Team officially kicked-off its season with a 7-2 victory over Lunenburg #3, at Marshall Park in Lunenburg on Sept. 12.

On a spectacular sunshine filled day, the team pounded out eight hits and played good defense over the course of six innings to seal the victory.

Jessie Poulin led all hitters with a double and two singles on the day. Timely hits by Bryan Jackson, Hayden Collins, Tyler Godin, Amanda Wood and Tyler Nims, all contributed to the hard fought win.

Pitching for the Ashburnham team was Poulin, who started and gave three strong innings allowing just two runs. Nims came on the mound next and closed the door with three scoreless innings.

The team had only one practice prior to the opener but played well together. Members of the team are Ashburnham's Austin Wood, Amanda Wood, Nolan King, Jesse Poulin, Bryan Jackson, Nims, Ryan Mount and Russell Wiley.

Ashby team members include Tyler Godin, Hayden Collins, Riley Maloney and Brian Neilsen.

The manager is Bob King with coaches William Jackson, Eric Wood and Steve Nims.

Mother Nature provided a gorgeous day for baseball as the local fallball team took the field for the second time on Sept. 16, but the runs scored by both teams rained down on the field in Winchendon this week.

The sluggers from Ashburnham were out slugged and out scored, falling to a 13-12 defeat. Winchendon rallied multiple times and won the game in the last inning for a walk-off victory.

Leading the way for Ashburnham was Jesse Poulin with three hits, followed by Austin Wood and Russell Wiley with two apiece. Brian Neilsen hit a laser down the right field line, while

Ryan Mount and Bryan Jackson contributed in a losing cause. Strong play of

Tyler Godin, Tyler Nims and Nolan King all flashed the leather and played heads up baseball.

Next up for the Ashburnham team is the always tough, Townsend Nine #2, at Marden Field, in Ahburnham, Saturday, September 23rd.
