New officers take helm for Hawthorne Brook Band Boosters

The Hawthorne Brook Middle School Band Boosters elected new officers at their Sept. 7 meeting.

Cheryl Zapolski will continue as president, Rose LeClerc is our vice president, Cedwyn Morgan is the new treasurer, and Heide Messing is the secretary. The Band Boosters thanked outgoing treasurer Alice Kennedy for her year of service and a job well done.

The Band Boosters are planning several events and fundraisers, including the winter concert, the spring concert, a spaghetti supper and a band trip to the Statehouse in Boston. The Hawthorne Brook Middle School Band and Jazz Band are comprised of roughly 100 children in grades sixth, seventh and eighth, under the direction of Michael Day, band director.

Oakmont Semester 1 Parent Conferences to be held

In an effort to foster greater communication between parents and teachers, Oakmont Regional High School will continue this year with school-wide parent-teacher conferences at Oakmont on Thursday, Oct.12. Students in grades 9 through 12 will be dismissed at 11:05 a.m. on that day.

Conference request forms have been sent home and parents are asked to indicate whether or not they desire a 10 minute conference - afternoon or evening - and which teachers they wish to confer with regarding their son or daughter's progress.

These forms must be returned to Oakmont by Monday, Oct. 2, in order that conferences may be scheduled. On Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, students will bring home your conference times schedule.

All parents are encouraged to participate in this opportunity to interact more closely with the Oakmont staff relative to the educational progress of your students.

High school recognizes scholarship winners

The following 47 seniors are recipients of the John & Abigail Adams Scholarship at Oakmont Regional High School. This scholarship provides a tuition waiver for eight traditional semesters of undergraduate education at Massachusetts state colleges and universities.
