Bertha J. Heikkila, 80

ASHBY - Bertha J. Heikkila, 80, of Vassalboro, Maine, formerly of Ashby, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at home. She devoted her life to teaching in the Ashby school system from 1948 until her retirement in 1984. She was a Trustee of the Ashby Free Public Library for many years. Mrs. Heikkila is survived by her husband, Paul W. Heikkila; her two sons, Vini Heikkila and his wife Colleen, and Miki Heikkila and his wife "Moe" and their two sons, Ian and David of Vassalboro; as well as a large extended family. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her only brother, John Johnson. A memorial celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at Ashby Congregational Church.
