Recall, grand opening continue to progress The recall process continues for three of the library trustees, while trustees continue to plan for the opening of the newly renovated library. After a hearing on Friday, Sept. 29 only three of the five recall petitions stood, said Town Clerk Lorraine Pease. The other two feel below the 400 needed signatures after the hearing, she said. Pease said the petitions expected to be presented to the Board of Selectmen during their meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The selectmen were expected to issue letters to each of the three trustees alerting them that they have five days to resign or an election will be held, Pease said. She added if an election is going to be held then she expects it to be held in mid- December because of voter registration timelines, nomination paper timelines and other election requirements. Trustee Chairwoman Maureen Davi, had recall petitions filed against her, but is no longer facing the process because there were not enough signatures on the petitions calling for her removal. Davi said she is not relieved and that the stress is not over. "It is still a big issue for the board," Davi said. "It is a board." Members of the public cried out against the termination of the director Marja LePoer this summer and the design of the renovated library. The renovations on the library are completed and the board is preparing for a Sunday, Oct. 22 grand opening. "We will open (to the public) as soon as we can," Davi said. "We are working to opening it before the formal opening." Most of the boxes and furniture has been moved from storage and from the temporary library in Town Hall, she said. She doesn't know yet what the opening celebration will include but she wants it to be a event for the town. |
