Richard A. Godfrey, 71 Was U.S. veteran; native of Ashburnham GARDNER - Richard A. Godfrey, 71, of 299 Pleasant St., died Wednesday, Sept. 27, in UMass Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, Worcester, after a long illness. He was born in Ashburnham on Aug. 4, 1935, the son of Frances (Palmer) Godfrey and the late William K. Godfrey and lived here all graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham and received his bachelor of his life. He graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham and received his bachelor degree from Bryant College in Rhode Island. For many years, he worked as an accountant at the Weyerhauser Co. in Fitchburg and later for the James River Corp. in Fitchburg. Mr. Godfrey served his country as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army, Airborne Division from 1954-1958. He is survived by his mother, Frances (Palmer) Godfrey of Ashburnham; one son, Richard A. Godfrey, Jr. of Baldwinville; two daughters, Dr. Wanda L. Godfrey-Guha of Clayton, N.C. and Deborah J. Caron of Orange; three brothers, William Godfrey of Ashland, Robert Godfrey of Templeton, and David Stone of Cary, N.C.; three sisters, Linda Crocker of Rindge, N.H., Sandra Richardson of Joppatowne, Md., and Diane Oliva of Gardner; eight grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Eastern MA, Inc., One Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346. Lamoureux-Fletcher Community Funeral Home directed arrangements. |
