Organization seeks to help homeless children

To the Editor:

You don't see them on the streets. In fact, you're probably not aware of them at all. But there are 20, 000 of them right here in Massachusetts. They're homeless children.

Child and family homelessness is a crisis in our community. Homeless kids are often transient, staying in shelters when they can or even living in cars with their families, so they're out of sight and, unfortunately, out of mind.

Horizons for Homeless Children is here to help them. And you can, too! Our programs and services help these homeless children learn and grow, and help their families return to self-sufficiency.

Join us in making a difference. Become a volunteer.

Horizons for Homeless Children is seeking fun-loving, dependable people to interact and play with children living in family homeless shelters and domestic violence shelters throughout Central Massachusetts. A commitment of two hours a week is required for at least six months. Day and evening hours are available.

Training sessions are held regularly and are listed on our Web site. Our next training in Worcester is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 (9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) and will be held at the YWCA. For more information about the program, or to register for a training, please visit www.horizonsforhomelesschildren. org or contact our office directly at (508) 755-2615. It is a fantastic experience that benefits everyone involved.
