Townsend  The Friends of the Townsend Public Library will host their annual book sale today from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Town Hall Annex (between the library and Memorial Hall). SATURDAY - OCTOBER 14 Townsend  AppleFest Day will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Townsend United Methodist Church, 265 Main St., Townsend. An Antique Appraisal event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Verbal antique appraisals will be given by Dick Fiorentino of Hobart Village Antiques and Martha Perkins of Perkins and Menson, both in West Townsend. Cost is $10 for three items. From noon to 2 p.m., Steve Ashe will portray Johnny Appleseed and talk about this life. Throughout the day enjoy fresh baked apple pies, crafts, baked goods, cider, apples, Smith's Country Cheese, activities, and tours of the bell tower in the 1770 church. A Ham and Baked Bean supper, complete with apple crisp for dessert, will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. (dine-in or 'take-out'). For information, call (978) 597-2486.  The Townsend Business Association will hold its first annual flea market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the Townsend Common. The fair will feature flea market items, crafts, and food vendors. Westminster  The Westminster Lion's Club will hold their annual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the VFW Field. Donations of yard sale items gratefully accepted. The Knights of Columbus Council No. 2536 will sponsor an "all-you-can-eat" spaghetti supper from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church Hall, 10 Church St. Tickets, available at the door, are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12; children under 6 eat free. SUNDAY - OCTOBER 15 Townsend  The Townsend Rod and Gun Club will hold a "Kid's Fishing Derby" from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the club pond (registration begins at 7 a.m.) A fishing license is not needed and a membership is not required. Fishing bait will be sold; prizes awarded; and breakfast and lunch available. Proceeds will benefit the Townsend Ecumenical Outreach Food Pantry. Admission is one can of non-perishable food. Proceeds from the breakfast, sponsored by the Westminster Lions Club, will benefit the Oakmont Youth Soccer (Westminster) Program. Pancakes (with as many second helpings as desired), ham, orange juice, coffee, and milk will be served. Tickets are $3; children under 6-years-old eat free.

Tuesday - October 17 Ashburnham  "Estate & Medicaid Planning in Uncertain Times" will be discussed from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stevens Memorial Library, 20 Memorial Drive. Wednesday - October 18 Ashburnham  A "Beginners Computer Class" will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Ashburnham Council on Aging, One Memorial Drive. Free to Ashburnham seniors and guests. Townsend  Join the Parent-Student Book Discussion Group at the Townsend Public Library, Room 1, Memorial Hall, at 7:30 p.m. The group will be reading and talking about Midnight for Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo. The North Middlesex SPED PAC's bi-monthly support and networking parent meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Support Center, North Middlesex Regional High School. The purpose of this gathering is to bring district parents together to share experiences, resources and ideas. Westminster  Members of the Westminster Seniors Friendship Club will meet at noon for a potluck dinner in St. Edward's Parish Hall. Bring your favorite dish.

Thursday - October 19 Ashburnham  "Pizza and Bingo for a Buck" will be held at noon at the Ashburnham Council on Aging, One Memorial Drive. One dollar buys you lunch, dessert and a bingo card. Greg McAdams, a motivational magician for young people, will present "They're Alive" at 6:30 p.m. at the Stevens Memorial Library, 20 Memorial Drive. "They're Alive" is a unique program that teaches children how to be safe when they go trick-or-treating this Halloween. Ashburnham  The Bluegrass Connection will perform at the Ashburnham Conservation Trust's "ACT 3rd Friday" coffeehouse at 7:30 p.m. at the Stevens Memorial Library, with a series of open mike performers. The band plays a lively mix of old time, country, and bluegrass just for the fun of it. Baked goods as well as coffee and herbal teas available. Suggested donation is $5.
