Fallball team struggles at most recent games The Ashburnham Fallball team struggled hard in its last two matches as they faced Westminster and Lunenburg. After a week long rest - from the rained out game on Sept. 22 - and a definite nip in the air on Sept. 30, Westminster traveled to Marden Field for a match of rivals. The visitors totally dominated the hometown team, by allowing no hits and playing some flashy defense, as Westminster outplayed Ashburnham for a 7 - 3 victory. The following week, Oct. 7, Ashburnham traveled to Lunenburg's McNally Field, to take on a tough Lunenburg #1 team. Lunenburg came out swinging white-hot bats and jumped out to a 5 - 0 lead against Ashburnham. The score could have been a lot higher if not for the fine defensive plays of Hayden Collins and Tyler Godin. Ashburnham battled back with two runs of its own but could not overcome the stingy defense and pitching depth of Lunenburg. Jessie Poulin led the way with two hits and Bryan Jackson added one in a loosing effort. Nolan King came on to pitch the final two frames striking out five and shutting down Lunenburg in a strong relief effort. Next up for Ashburnham will be the Bartelson Tournament in Pepperell on Sunday, Oct. 14, with the winner advancing towards a championship game on Sunday, Oct. 22. - Submitted to The Journal |
