Charter school holds fall open houses North Central Charter Essential School (NCCES) announced the availability of applications for the 2007-2008 school year. The school will hold information sessions on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. and on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Families with students interested in attending the school should attend one of the sessions. "As more families realize they have a choice in their student's public school education, they are looking to compare options earlier in the year," said Peter Garbus, the NCCES executive director. "Many people liken the NCCES educational experience to that of an independent school. We've been asked to offer some information sessions at a time when many of the independent schools are offering their open houses so parents can compare options." The school's directors as well as current parents and students will talk about the school, provide a tour of the facility, and answer questions. Currently 350 students from 25 towns attend the combination middle and high school located at 1 Oak Hill Road in Fitchburg. In June 2006, the school celebrated the graduation of their first graduating class, 96 percent of whom were accepted to college. As a charter school, NCCES is free and open to any student to attend. NCCES is an Essential School, part of a network of more than 1,000 schools across the country that follow a common set of guidelines to make learning more effective, more meaningful and more powerful. Essential schools engage student's minds in small classes through active, experiential and project-based learning. - Submitted to The Journal |
