A good experience with often dreaded road work

To the Editor:

We live on Gibson Road in Ashburnham and just had our road resurfaced and repaved. I must admit that although the road was in desperate need of some extensive improvements, I cringed when I first saw the "Road Work Ahead" sign as I turned on to Gibson. I was pretty sure that we were all in for major headaches and delays as the town workers began to widen and improve the road.

There was a great deal of work to be done. Utility poles had to be moved and many trees taken down in order to widen the road. In addition, extensive drainage work was necessary along the entire length of Gibson Road. While I knew we needed these improvements I certainly was not looking forward to the process!

Well, how wrong I was in anticipating the worst!

The men who worked on our road could not have been any nicer, more polite or more considerate. Every time I needed to pass by, which often necessitated their moving several pieces of heavy equipment and/or trucks, I was met with a smile and a wave. They never seemed to get aggravated. They quickly lifted the outriggers and moved whatever needed to be moved so that traffic could pass by. This went on for weeks. These men worked many Saturdays. Still, they were nothing but professional and pleasant, friendly really, at all times.

We would like to thank each and every one of the people who worked on our road for what looks like a job very well done, and for making it so easy on those of us who travel up and down Gibson Road several times a day. Thank you!
