Members of Townsend Girl Scout Troop #643 helped roll $780 in change for the Townsend Ecumenical Outreach.
The troop helped to count and roll change donated during the TEO Summer Penny Drive so the money could be used by the group.
While volunteers Ken Gerken and Hirk Fortin sorted all the change, the girls counted and rolled pennies for several hours.
This is the fourth year the Girl Scouts have assisted with counting change from the TEO drive. They are aware of the importance of the fund-raiser and know that all proceeds assist residents and aid in an emergency. This year the total for the Summer Penny Drive was $780.
The Cadette/Senior Troop currently has six members and they invite girls in Townsend (grades 7-12) to join the troop. Meetings are held at Hawthorne Brook Middle School on Wednesdays, immediately after school. The troop actively provides community service, works to develop their leadership skills, plans camping trips and works on interesting projects. Please call troop advisor Chris Boisse at (978) 597-6836 for more information about Girl Scouts in Townsend.
If you didn't happen to see a canister at one of Townsend's businesses and would like to make a contribution, please contact TEO at (978) 597-2549 or you may write to TEO, 82 Bayberry Hill Rd, West Townsend MA 01474.
