Habitat working towards spring ground breaking

The Habitat for Humanity project in town is working towards their goal.

The group has raised approximately $34,925 and they have a $500.00 pledge for May 2007. The group still needs to raise $131,000 to build the house in town.

The group is working to build a home for Leah and Chris McSparren and their three children Joe, Gage and Andrew were the family picked by Habitate for the Habitat for Humanity house to be built on Sherbert Road.

The group need more than 80 percent of their total cost to break ground, which they plan to do that in the spring.

The group is still working on organizing their fundraisers they are preparing to ask local businesses to get involved and possibly donate a percent of a day's profit to the organization. They are also preparing to start donation cans around town to help collect money from local residents.

The local Habitat group will also be holding a telethon on Tuesday Nov. 14 and 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to try to help raise money for the project.

The groups next meeting is Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Ashburnham Stevens Memorial Library.

If anyone knows people who we can contact for in-kind donations please forward the information to Ed Vitone @ lvitone@comcast.net.

The group is also collecting volunteers. They can contact Laura Jones through e-mail at dogwoodlaura@yahoo.com or mail at P.O. Box 724, Ashburnham 01430.
