Overlook cross country teams end record season The Overlook boys' and girls' cross country teams finished their seasons competing against 12 teams at the Fitchburg Invitational (Voit Lassila) on Oct. 26. Despite bus problems that made the boys so late that they had no time to even warm-up, the team still won the runner-up trophy. Ethan Beauregard finished off a stellar year by finishing fourth. He was undefeated in all duel and tri meets during the year. Right behind Beauregard in sixth place was seventh grader, Christian Robichaud. The other five Overlook runners who scored points to help the team place were Eric Ouellette, Tobey Belton, Eric Fagnant, Calvin Young and Derrick Andrews. The team was only allowed to have seven runners compete in that part of the race. The junior varsity portion of the meet had 153 runners. Dave Leblanc won an award for his terrific fourth place finish. Also running well in the JV race were Ben Weiderman, Tim Steussy, James and Justin McGeeney, Justin Capone, Troy Richardson, Zach Forgues, Taylor Breau, Ethan Barrows, Steve Hilton. Elan Jackson, Josh Craig, Alex Berube, James Ham, Ben Murphy, Joey Poirier and Pat O'Connell. The boys had an outstanding year with a record of 13 wins, and one loss. They beat every team they faced at least once and they also won the coveted Keene Invitational, Wachusett Invitational, and the runner-up award in the Fitchburg Invitational. The girls came in seventh in the Fitchburg Invitational with a number of great individual performances. Seventh grader Jennifer Burke sprinted into the top 10 by finishing eighth overall. Also running towards the top of the pack were hardworking Krysta Zbikowski and Colleen Mulligan. Also running well for the girls in the varsity race were Lauren Ouellette, sixth graders Sadi Zbikowski, Kerry Kupcinskas, and Mary Regan. Running well for the junior varsity girls were Haley Barry, Meghan Horgan and Allison Durkin. The girls' team had their best year in a long time finishing with seven wins and seven losses record despite having sixth graders making up half of the runners. This group of girls had a terrific attitude that translated into a lot of hard work. Each of the girls beat their best time at the end of the year marking a true test of success. - Submitted to The Journal |
