Housing committee ready to present plan to selectmen The Affordable Housing Committee will be presenting their plan to the Board of Selectmen at their meeting on Monday, Nov. 20. Donna Brooks, the chairwoman of the affordable housing committee, said they have been working to create a plan on how to bring in state mandated affordable housing since February. "It is for people living and working in the community," Brooks said of the affordable housing. "It is workforce housing, I think people think it is totally more like a welfare state is not. It is for you and me and our kids." The state mandates that a town have either 10 percent of its' housing stock classified as affordable, under their guidelines, or a plan on how to get to that point. Ashburnham has significantly less than that. Brooks said they have done a series of reviews of the plan and worked with a professional consultant. She said the goal is to help the town grow right. - Compiled by Caitlyn Kelleher |
