Clarification

The real estate tax takings planned for Nov. 17, in Ashby were cancelled. A tax taking allows the town to place a lien against a property for non-payment of taxes, which begins the foreclosure process. There are state required steps and notifications that lead up to and include a two-week period between advertisement and the official date of taking. A misprint of the taking date rendered the Nov. 3 notice invalid, and the tax collector notified the property owners of this forced cancellation. The Nov. 10 notice that was printed also was invalid. The required notification period will begin at a later date.
