Bike helmet safety program winners announced

Danny McNamara, Richie Hubbard, Rebecca King and Felicia Lord each won a $150 gift certificate to Gamache Cyclery in Fitchburg for participating in the Townsend Police Department's Bicycle Helmet Safety Program.

For the last 11 years, the summer-long program rewards children who properly wear a helmet when bicycling. If a police officer spots a youngster with a helmet on, the officer gives he/she a gift certificate for a free ice cream at Central Plaza Pizza of the Ice Cream Factory.

The collected coupons are then entered into a raffle at the end of the summer. The Board of Selectmen chose the raffle winners at their meeting this week.
