Robert E. Ordway, 68
Was U.S. veteran; enjoyed spending time with family

WEST TOWNSEND - Robert E. Ordway, 68, of 40 West Elm St., died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at his home.

He was born in Fitchburg on April 8, 1938, the son of Edwin H. and Helen L. (Leger) Ordway and had resided in West Townsend for 46 years. He was a member of the Class of 1956 at Lunenburg High School.

For over 30 years, Mr. Ordway worked as the operations manager at Viana Distributing in Fitchburg, retiring in 2003. Prior to that he worked for The Coca-Cola Company for many years.

He enjoyed golfing and fishing, but especially loved spending time with his son and grandsons. He never missed any of his son's or grandson's games. Many years ago he coached in the Townsend Little League Program and was an All-Star coach.

Mr. Ordway served his country in the United States Marines, serving in the Marine Recon Unit.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sheila M. (Allen) Ordway; a son, Robert H. Ordway, Sr. of Ashby; two brothers, Edwin H. Ordway, Jr. of West Townsend and Thomas A. Ordway of Bradenton, Fla.; two sisters, Betty A. Leblanc of Lunenburg and Lucille Nuorimo of Hernando, Fla.; two grandchildren, Robert H. Ordway, Jr. and Ryan S. Ordway, both of Ashby; several nieces and nephews.
