Hazel Mae (Ordway) Berard, 93
Was active member in the Townsend community

TOWNSEND - Hazel Mae (Ordway) Berard, 93, formerly of 66 Dudley Road (Atwood Acres) and 526 Main St., died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at the Bridgeway Care Center, Bridgewater, N.J.

She was born in East Boston on Oct. 15, 1913, the daughter of Edwin G. and Florence E. (Chase) Ordway and step-daughter of Helen T. (McGuigan) Ordway, and resided in Fitchburg before moving to Townsend in 1945.

Mrs. Berard worked in the accounts receivable department at Johnson Creative Arts Company formerly the Elsa Williams Needlecraft Company in West Townsend before her retirement in 1982.

She was a 1931 graduate of Fitchburg High School and for over 70 years actively participated in the Fitchburg High School Reunion Club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Townsend. She was a member of the Townsend Women's Club, Townsend Historical Society and Townsend Golden Agers and the Montachusett Vision Support Group. She was a charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6538 in Townsend and the AARP Fitchburg Chapter 298.

Mrs. Berard is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce F. and Susan Berard of Hillsborough, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Keith Berard and Elizabeth Berard. She was the wife of Benjamin F. Berard who died in December 1991. She was also predeceased by her brother, Wilmoth H. Ordway of Fitchburg in 1993.

Memorial contributions may be in Mrs. Berard's name to the First Baptist Church, West Townsend, MA.
