Philip E. Smith Jr., 67
Was U.S. veteran; longtime Ashburnham resident

ASHBURNHAM — Philip E. Smith Jr., 67, of 1 Fairview Ave., died at home after an illness with his loving family at his bedside.

He was born in Damariscotta, Maine on Dec. 9, 1939, the son of Philip E. Sr. and Mary (Petrillo) Smith. He graduated from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, Maine and attended the University of Maine at Orono. He has lived in Ashburnham for 35 years.

Mr. Smith was employed for 25 years at the former Digital Equipment Co. and retired as project manager.

He was a member of the Ashburnham Community Church, the North Leominster Rod and Gun Club. He was a Civil War buff and a gun collector and enjoyed target shooting. He loved gardening.

Mr. Smith was an U.S. Army veteran.

He leaves his wife of 46 years, Regina “Gina” (Cameron) Smith, whom he married on July 17, 1960; two sons, Cameron C. Smith of Spencer and Douglas S. and his wife Christine Smith of Rutland; one daughter, Melissa M. Smith of Salem; one brother, Larry R. and his wife Gail Smith of Wiscasset, Maine; and three grandchildren, Taima N. Smith, Cameron R. Smith of Spencer, and Alexander “Alex” P. Smith of Rutland.

The Ashburnham Funeral Chapel of John A. Bosk Inc. assisted the family.
