Stanley L. Newton, 84
Best remembered as loving father and grandfather

ASHBURNHAM — Stanley L. Newton, 84, formerly of 27 South School St., Ashley Court, Ashburnham, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, in the Odd Fellows Home, Worcester, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Worcester on July 26, 1922, the son of the late Robert L. and Edith (Haas) Newton and lived in Grafton and then Leominster for many years before moving to Ashburnham. He attended Leominster schools and graduated from Leominster High School. He attended one year of classes at Wilbraham Academy in Deerfield and then enrolled at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. He received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1945 and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Anyone who knew him is aware of the deep pride he had in Dartmouth College.

Following graduation, he took on the daily operations of his family’s Dairy Bar on Manchester Street in Leominster and later owned and operated the former Newton Dairy with locations in Clinton, Hudson and Leominster.

Mr. Newton was an active member of People’s Congregational Church in Ashburnham. He was also an Eagle Scout and long-time football enthusiast. In fact, as a young man, he played center. Of all his accomplishments, perhaps he will be remembered best as being a loving and caring

father and grandfather.

He is survived by his children, James T. Muse of Leominster, Patricia E. Lamb of Rothsville, Pa., Pamela J. Bursler of Berlin, Md., Virginia P. Moisa of Deep River, Conn., Katherine M. Aldrich of Westminster, Donna J. Mosher of Worcester, Debra A. Boyden of Hardwick, and Gayle M. Bush of Fitchburg. He also leaves 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. His beloved wife of 35 years, Mary Lou (Goodwin) Newton, died in 1997.

In lieu of flowers, should anyone wish to make a memorial contribution in Stanley’s memory, the family has asked that you kindly consider the Stanley Newton Memorial Fund, Dartmouth College Donor Engagement/Stewardship Office, 6066 Development Office, Hanover, NH 03755.
