ASHBURNHAM — Josephine E. (Daris) Smith, 96, a former resident of Ashley Court on School Street, Ashburnham, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.

She was born in South Ashburnham on April 1, 1910, the daughter of the late Mitchell L. and Rose (Clement) Daris and lived here all of her life. She was an active communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in South Ashburnham, a member of the Thomas P. Sweeney Post 142 American Legion Auxiliary of Ashburnham, the Forever Young Club of Ashburnham, and the Gardner Chapter of the AARP. She enjoyed day trips with the Forever Young Club and served as Recording Secretary for the group for many years. She was also enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Smith is survived by one son, Philip J. Smith of Manchester, N.H.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Norman G. Smith of Cape Coral, Fla., died in 1997. She was also predeceased by seven brothers and two sisters.
