Oiva Olkkola, 75 ASHBY - Oiva Olkkola, 75, of 350 West Road, died Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Golden Living Center, Fitchburg, after an illness. He was born on March 15, 1931, in Toholampi, Finland. Mr. Olkkola was educated in Finland and served in the Finnish Army as a Sharp Shooter. He has been a resident of Ashby for many years. Mr. Olkkola worked as a carpenter for the Seppela and Aho Co. for many years, prior to his retirement. He had a love for the outdoors, including fishing, gardening, and taking long walks. Mr. Olkkola was the husband of the late Sirkka Liisa (Sandolin) Olkkola who died July 30, 1999. They were married for 44 years. He leaves four sons, Kari Olkkola of Ashby, Erkki Olkkola of Ashburnham, Harry Olkkola of Lunenburg, and Ari Olkkola of Greenville, N.H.; one daughter, Tarji DeRaps of Keene, N.H.; two grandsons; six granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; five brothers; one sister; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Finland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. The Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home directed arrangements. |
