WESTMINSTER- Rachel M. (Kaustinen) Leppanen, 94, of 1675 Main St., formerly of East Road, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at River Terrace Health Care, Lancaster, after an illness.

She was born on Aug. 10, 1912, in Fitchburg, the daughter of the late Nickolai Matti and Amelia Kaustinen.

Mrs. Leppanen leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric W. and Francess Leppanen of E. Brookfield, and Paul A. and Joyce Leppanen of Holden; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine M. and John J. Murphy of Leominster; one daughter-inlaw, Jean Leppanen of Merrimack, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Eero C. Leppanen who died March 27, 1991. She is also predeceased by a son, Carl E. Leppanen who died in February of 1996, and a sister, Gertrude Karkane.

A private funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 12, in Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer- Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net), 123 Main Street, Westminster. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, 9 Narrows Road, Westminster. Calling hours will be private.
