Community Notes Gallant receives five-year renewal Melody Gallant, treasurer/collector for Westminster, has had her designation as Certified Massachusetts Municipal Collector renewed for an additional period of five years. Gallant's renewal was granted by the Board of Certification of the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association. Renewal is awarded every five years only to those previously certified candidates who continue to attend the Annual School of the Association held in August of each year at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and who successfully complete courses in municipal law, finance and administration. In a letter to the Board of Selectmen, Executive Director, Nils L. Nordberg of the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association, extended congratulations and conveyed the thanks of that body to the people of Westminster for supporting Gallant's efforts, which culminated in this honor and achievement. Nordberg went on to say he was confident that the people of Westminster would continue to support their Treasurer/ Collector's efforts to maintain and increase her expertise. Gallant received her Renewal Certificate on Dec. 13, at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester during luncheon ceremonies attended by many state and local government notables. Cheerleaders continue to raise money As part of their ongoing fundraising campaign to raise money for their trip to Nationals, the Oakmont varsity cheerleaders will be hosting a "Friendly's Night" on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 5-8 p.m. at the Friendly's in Gardner. The squad will receive 10 percent of the total sales for orders that are both eaten at the restaurant as well as take-out orders. |
