Celebrate the beginning of the Chinese New Year, 4705 (2007) with noted Chinese brush painter Bruce Iverson from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Fitchburg Art Museum, Merriam Parkway. Learn about Chinese culture and see a demonstration of Chinese calligraphy. Paint your birth year glyph using ink and bamboo brushes and finish with a framed work of art. Ages 7 and up. Ready Set Crop's "Be My Valentine" scrap-booking event will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Townsend Methodist Church, Townsend. Cost is $30 registration and includes food, beverages and snacks all day; four feet of scrapping space; free use of stamping and die cut stations; and hourly door prizes.

The "SouperBowl of Caring Food Drive" will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Peoples Church, 56 S. Main St., Ashburnham. Churches in the area are collecting nonperishable food items for families in need.
