David Paradis, 57
Was U.S. veteran; avid fisherman and bowler
TOWNSEND - David P. Paradis, 57, of Townsend and formerly of Pepperell, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

He was born in Groton on Aug. 23, 1949, the son of Norman and the late June (Jay) Paradis. He spent his early life in Pepperell, and was a 1968 graduate of North Middlesex High School.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving with the 1st Battalion of the 26th Marine 9th Marine Amphibious Battalion in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart for serious injuries he received in battle. He was a recipient of a Combat Action Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Marksman Badge.

He had been employed at CPF of Ayer as a lab technician in quality control.

Mr. Paradis was an avid fisherman and bowler and enjoyed being on his boat "Semper Fi" out of Amesbury Harbor. He was an accomplished fly tier as well as a teacher of the art to others. He was member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 3291 of Pepperell.

Besides his father, Norman Paradis of Pepperell; Mr. Paradis is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Patricia A. (Dolan) Paradis of Townsend; his devoted sons, 1st Lt. Brett J. Paradis USMC and his wife, Jennifer, of Whitinsville, and Michael B. Paradis of the Townsend Fire Dept. 4; brothers Thomas Paradis and his wife, Ellen, of Fitchburg, Edwin Paradis of Pepperell, Douglas Paradis and his wife, Sue, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dennis Paradis of Pepperell; his sister, Rhonda P. Dion of Manchester N.H.; as well as his former wife, Rose Hartwell of Pepperell.

Donations may be made in his memory to Diversified VNA and Hospice, 25 Tucker Drive, Leominster, MA 01453. Hamilton McGaffigan Funeral Home directed arrangements.
