School cleared by bomb threat

Ashburnham and Westminster police responded to a report of a bomb threat at Overlook Middle School on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 31. The note was found written on a bathroom stall, said Police Chief Loring Barrett.

School and public safety officials swept the building, while students were first evacuated from the school and then contained in a small area of the school because of the weather conditions.

Police and school officials identified the child who wrote on the stall.

The school is going to handle the discipline matter internally rather than file criminal charges, said Barrett.

School Superintendent Michael Zapantis could not be reached for comment before press time.
