Resident seriously injured in Fitchburg State Rd. accident An Ashby man was seriously injured in single-car accident on Fitchburg State Road on Sunday, Feb. 11, according to police. Jeffrey O. Pitre, 27, appears to have been driving his pickup truck southbound on Fitchburg State Road, when it crossed into the northbound lanes before leaving the road and hitting a tree, police said. Ashby Police and Fire Departments responded to the accident near Page Road around 9:30 p.m. Pitre, of 107 Hosmer Road, was severely injured and transported by Ashby EMS and Patriot Ambulance to UMass Leominster Hospital. Med- Flight then flew him by helicopter to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester. As of Monday afternoon, Pitre was in fair condition. Police closed part of Fitchburg State Road and detoured traffic around the accident scene until 12:30 a.m. to conduct the investigation. The Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team assisted. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
