Comcast gives community center grant

The Clark Memorial Community Center recently received a $1,140 grant from The Comcast Foundation in recognition of their partnership with the local community organization.

The center is a non-profit, charitable community organization located in Winchendon, serves the residents of Winchendon, Ashburnham, Westminster, Templeton, and Gardner, as well as some New Hampshire communities.

The center is geared toward serving the fitness and well-being needs of youth and families. The current membership enrollment figure is 2,481, with approximately 27 percent receiving financial assistance through the scholarship program.

Many more local residents utilize the facility, including the walking track, playing fields, playground, outdoor tennis and basketball courts, Robinson-Broadhurst Community Ice Rink, gymnasium, 25-yard swimming pool, and fitness center.

Clark member and local Comcast supervisor, Mark Lawrence, was instrumental in establishing the partnership, which also garnered a $2,000 grant last year. This grant enabled the Clark to improve customer service through high-speed Internet access and covered the cost of the new TV's in the Cardio Room.

"They've been extremely helpful over the last 18 months and again with this support. With this grant we will be able to enhance our services to the community and dedicate other resources to getting more people involved. Comcast has proven to be a true year-round partner and we are grateful for their involvement and support."
