Recycling Committee and Recreation Department announce Earth Day preparation

The Townsend Recycling Committee and the Townsend Recreation Department will hold Earth Day meetings on Tuesdays - March 6, March 27, and April 17, at 7 p.m. in Room 2 of Memorial Hall (Town Hall). Please join in the preparation of "Backyard Habitat," to be held Saturday, April 28, on the Townsend Common. Environmental companies, local businesses, crafters and non-profit groups are invited to join in the celebration. Booth space is $20 for profit groups; free for non-profit groups. Send a self-addressed stamped envelope with payment to Town of Townsend, 101 Main St., Townsend, MA 01469.

Townsend Public Library Children's Room Staff seek the public's help.

The staff of the Children's Room of the Townsend Public Library is asking for donations of new or gently used DVDs. If you have any that your child has outgrown or doesn't like to watch, the library would be glad to have them. They will either be added to the collection or put into the Friends of the Library Book Sale.

Townsend Woman's Club to meet

The next meeting of the Townsend Woman's Club will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the West Townsend Reading Room (corner of Canal Street and Dudley Road). Linda Matson, director, will chair the business portion of the meeting with Recording Secretary and Treasurer's reports to be given. The Nominating Committee will also present the 2007-08 Slate of Officers at this time. The program will be in the form of an "Antique Road Show" with members bringing in their treasured items for discussion by Dick Fiorentino of the Hobart Village Antique Mall in West Townsend. Visitors are always welcome to the meetings. Refreshments will be in charge of Ginny Welch, chairman.

The 35th Annual Strawberry Festival for the benefit of the Townsend Woman's Club Scholarship Fund is scheduled for Saturday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Townsend Common. (Rain date is Sunday, June 24). Applications have already been sent out to vendors that participated last year. Rental fee for a 12x12 space is $25.

Teddy Bear Picnic to be held

Nashoba Valley Technical High School will host a Teddy Bear Picnic at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in the school's Performing Arts Center.

Popular children's performer Bill Shontz will be on hand, performing songs from his album, "Teddy Bear's Greatest Hits," and there will be live dancing teddy bears. In addition to their own teddy bears, children are encouraged to bring an extra teddy bear, which the school will donate to a local charitable organization. Following the picnic, there will be a teddy-bear parade to the Little Sprouts Child Enrichment Center, on the Nashoba Tech campus, where there will be an after-party.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 or a book of 10 children's tickets for $40, and are available at Nashoba Tech, 100 Littleton Road, Westford; the Roudenbush Community Center, 65 Main St., Westford; and at Little Sprouts locations in Westford and Lowell.
