Hope springs eternal, someone once wrote.

He must have been a Red Sox fan.

This time every year, as baseball teams are in the thick of spring training and the season opener is only weeks away, Sox disciples are gearing up for a repeat of 2004.

Or are they?

In the back of our minds, do we cling to the remnants of our old selves, the ones who enter the baseball season with guarded enthusiasm, unsure whether to give ourselves over to the notion of a World Series championship?

Ah, what the heck. Let Dice-K reign. Go Sox!
