SPORTS ROUNDUP AWARD WINNERS ... Megan Toby of Princeton, Brianna Hilton of Holden, and Matt Faler of Ashburnham captured the first and second places in the Eastern Division Student Seminar held at Bretton Woods Ski Resort March 17-18. These three high school students practice First Aid every Sunday at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, and compete against other Student Patrollers from Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Pennsylvania. Toby came in first in both the Assessment competition and the Outdoor Emergency Care competition. Hilton took second in the Outdoor Emergency Care Division. Faler placed second in the Assessment Division. Assessment competition requires the Student Patroller to examine the injured skier and determine the injury. It involves taking a pulse, determining respirations and finding the injury. Outdoor Emergency Care requires the Student Patroller to properly treat the injury. This involves securing the accident scene, treating the injured skier, and transporting that person to the First Aid Room at the bottom of the mountain. Like all adult patrollers, students are CPR certified and must complete the same Outdoor Emergency Care course taken by adult patrollers. * * * * * * * * UMPIRE CLASSES … Holden Baseball will be conducting free umpire training classes on Mondays and Tuesdays starting April 2.
