Community Notes Townsend United Methodist to celebrate outdoor Easter service The community is invited to attend an outdoor sunrise service at 6 a.m. Sunday, April 8, Easter morning, beside the Cooperage, on the Townsend Harbor Pond, corner of Route 119 and South Street in Townsend Harbor. There will be a service of message, music, and prayer. Coffee and donuts will be served after the service. The Easter Church Worship Service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Townsend United Methodist Church, 265 Main St., Townsend Center. For more information, call the Rev. Calling All Crafters for 26th Annual Spring Festival and Craft Fair Townsend United Methodist Church will host its 26th Annual Spring Festival and Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 19, on the Townsend Common, junction of routes 13 and 119, Townsend Center. Crafters from all over New England will participate with a great variety of arts and crafts. (Rain date is Sunday, May 20) Crafter spaces are available. The fee is $20 for a 12- by 12-foot space, with the crafter providing their own table and tent. For information, or to receive an application, call (978) 597-2486. Try your chance at a wonderful quilt A machine-pieced, hand-quilted friendship sampler, created as a fund-raiser for the Friends of the Townsend Public Library by the Quiltteas, will be raffled off Saturday, April 21. Members of the Quiltteas are Lucille Forest, Beverly Johnson, Joan Landry, Mae Larson, Lillian Martin, Nancy Martin, and Irene Nicholson. Tickets may be purchased for $1 each or six for $5. In addition o being available at the Townsend Public Library, tickets may be purchased at special demonstrations at selected locations. "Pig Out" at the Townsend Public Library; registration required The Friends of the Townsend Public Library present "Pig Out on Reading with Farmer Minor & Daisy the Pig" at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the Great Hall of Memorial Hall. During Daisy's visit, Farmer Minor will tell stories about Daisy and teach everyone about Daisy and her pampered porcine life and how she became a most famous pig. At the end of the program, following the Daisy Pledge, all will be able to pet Daisy and receive a pig stamp on their hands. Appropriate for all ages. Also, a "Pig Out on Reading" story time will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Room 2 of Memorial Hall. Enjoy hearing some pig stories and then do a pig-themed craft. 'Catch the Beat for Your Library' at Barnes & Noble The Massachusetts Regional Library Systems, Massachusetts Library Association, Massachusetts School Library Association, the Townsend Public Library, and Barnes & Noble have teamed up for a two-day event scheduled for Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21, sure to please families throughout Massachusetts. The event, Catch the Beat for Your Library at Barnes & Noble, will raise much-needed funding for Summer Reading Programs in Massachusetts libraries. Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of every sale from every customer who presents a book fair voucher at any Massachusetts Barnes and Noble store on those two days. The collaboration represents a growing trend in libraries to seek out partners to help fund programs that improve the quality of life for residents. Customers can present a book fair voucher at any Barnes & Noble retail store in Massachusetts on April 20 and 21 when they purchase books, CDs, DVDs, cafe items, toys and more (gift cards are excluded). Vouchers are available from local libraries and by request at any Massachusetts Barnes & Noble cash register on those two days. Solutions Patrons can also help their library win big. Barnes & Noble has generously offered a $500 gift card to be given to the library whose patrons bring in the most vouchers.
