Police warn of mail scam Ashburnham Police are concerned about a number of complaints from residents about fraudulent scams in the mail. There have been a number of letters mailed to town residents from MGD Claims Centre Payment Processing Center out of Sacramento, Ca. and with a return address of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, according to police. The police are working with the state Attorney General's to investigate the scams. The scammers ask recipients to mail a check to the company so that they can redeem a check that was mailed to them. The check mailed to residents will not clear at the bank. There is very little the police can do to get a person's money back, according to Ashburnham Police. The state AG's office has received many reports of this crime. Any other recipients of this letter are urged to report this to the Attorney General's Office at (617) 727-8400. |
