Library news

Forbush Memorial Library announces that it will be closed on Monday, April 16, in observance of Patriots Day.

Two new audio books will entertain you in your travels: For Maeve Binchy fans, "Whitethorn Woods" is full of short stories (told with true wit) about people who are tied in to this beautiful place as it is seen through their eyes. "Whitethorn Woods" is a gentle tale, whether you listen to it or read the book. For another type of audio book, try Tami Hoag's "The Alibi Man," which is set in Palm Beach and full of suspense and thrills.

Among the several arrives in new fiction, the library has the Alibi Man in print form. Other new arrivals include Orson S. Card's "Saints," a novel, an epic about the Kirkham family's move from England to Utah in the 1800s. Although originally published in 1980, this is a terrific tale of courage, faith, and the American frontier. "Obsession" by Jonathan Kellerman is a psychological thriller "that illuminates a shadowy world where impulse rules." In "Heartstopper" (by Joy Fielding), a seemingly quiet Florida town has a dark side that includes scandal, sex, and murder. More conspiracy fiction may be found in Michael Gruber's "The Book of Air and Shadows," which weaves a tale of deadly chase to find a priceless treasure involving William Shakespeare and where no one can be trusted.

New arrivals are shelved in the Kendig Room and listed in the online catalog, which is accessible from http://www.westminster-ma.org/library/. Don't forget that you may request and renew books, tapes, and CDs. For more information, call (978) 874-7416. The Forbush Memorial Library is open Monday-Tuesday 1 to 8 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday-Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Town Wide Yard Sale being planned

The Westminster Historical Society is planning a Town Wide Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19.

This is the way a Town Wide Yard Sale works: People who want to participate by holding a yard sale at their house on May 19 should contact the Historical Society by phone at (978) 874- 5569 or by e-mail at WestminsterHist@aol.com.

People will pay a fee to be listed in a map of the town. The Historical Society will advertise the Town Wide Yard Sale in all the local papers and on the cable TV stations. It will produce maps of the town with every household participating marked on the map. In addition on the back of the map will be a list all the homes and some of the choice items being sold at the homes.

On the day of the Town Wide Yard Sale maps will be sold in front of the Historical Society House on Main Street, beginning at 8 a.m. so that people can map out their routes in town. Maps will be sold all day.
