Local camp makes impact
4-H Camp Middlesex named a Safety 1st Camp

Each year the Markel Insurance Company Safety 1st Education Program inducts a certain number of camps/clubs into the Safety 1st Hall of Fame. In 2006 Camp Middlesex in Ashby, was inducted, along with 34 other summer camps and clubs nationwide. Safety 1st is an honor given to camps that made safety a top priority during their previous camping seasons.

According to Will Evans, Markel's Director of Safety Education "Markel does not award this designation lightly - camps or clubs must have a proven safety record for at least three years, undergo formal assessments and inspections, and participate in continuing education and certification programs. These facilities deserve to be commended for making safety a top priority."
