OBITUARIES Patrick R. Magnan, 40 Was dedicated citizen; police officer for town of Ashby

FITCHBURG - Patrick R. Magnan, 40, of 33 Longedge St., died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in HealthAlliance Hospital/ Leominster, after an illness.

He was born on March 10, 1967, in Fitchburg, the son of Michael E. and Anne M. (Nichols) Magnan. Patrick graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1989. He was currently attending Mount Wachusett Community College studying Criminal Justice.

Patrick's passion was criminal justice. He was a Dispatcher for the Town of Shirley, a part time Police Officer for the town of Ashby. He also was a Call Firefighter in Princeton, Assistant Animal Control officer serving Lunenburg, Lancaster, and Groton, an instructor for the American Red Cross, a Constable for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Civil Air Patrol out of the Fitchburg Airport, and a Worcester County Deputy Sheriff.

He previously worked in the Circulation Department at the Fitchburg & Leominster Sentinel and Enterprise. He owned and operated Magnan Cleaning Service.

Patrick gave of himself to the community in many ways including, serving on the Fitchburg School Committee since 2003, the Fitchburg Clean-up Corps, and was on the Board of Directors for the Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network. He took part in the September 11th Flag Dedication. He attended the Worcester Democratic Convention. He was an avid soccer fan.

Besides his parents, Michael and Anne Magnan of Fitchburg; he leaves several close friends including, Shawn T. Morrissey, Tom, and Phil; his sister, Melanie E. Magnan of Fitchburg; two godchildren, Medrick and Morgan; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his dog, Max.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 18, at 11 a.m. in the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 923 Main St., Fitchburg. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Tuesday, April 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network, 22 Pearl St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
