Earth Day is a day of education, celebration and action for the world in which we live. The "Backyard Habitat" theme inspired the following activities: a free plant swap (bring marked indoor or outdoor plants by 9 a.m.), make pinecone bird feeders and play "Name That Bird" at the Friends of Willard Brook's table; a visit by Smokey Bear; Healthy Organic Lawns talks by Michele Canon at 10:15 a.m. and 1 p.m.; Townsend Rod and Gun Club will tell about forest thinning; plant seeds in newspaper cups at the 4-H table; art work and displays by Spaulding and Squannacook students; live animals; recycling old calendars with Girl Scout Troop 643; Boy Scout Troop 10's 'bottle and can drive'; and recycling and composting programs.

Non-profit organizations will host the food court (Middlesex 4- H,) a bake table to benefit Heifer International, games (Cub Scout Pack 11) a free climbing wall (U.S. Army,) and flea market tables
