Take a Hike' For Humanity at 12th annual event Area residents are invited to participate in a Hike for Humanity at Mount Monadnock on Saturday, May 19 or Sunday, May 20. This 12th annual Hike for Humanity raises funds to build simple decent homes that lowincome families can afford. Hiking Mount Monadnock, in Jaffrey, N.H., is a great way to support Habitat for Humanity while enjoying the mountain scenery and spring weather. Hikers collect pledges from family members, friends and co-workers. Money raised will go to build Habitat houses in north central Massachusetts this spring and summer. The summit is about three miles on welltraveled trails over easy to moderate terrain. For those not up to hiking to the top of the mountain, alternative paths near the base of the mountain are available. Hike as an individual, or with family and friends, or form a team of up to ten members. There will also be a silent auction at the bottom of the mountain at the end of the hike. Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts is a non-profit, Christian ecumenical housing ministry that builds houses with people in need. It is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, serving 24 towns and cities in north central Massachusetts, including Acton, Ashburnham, Ashby, Ayer, Bolton, Boxboro, Clinton, Fitchburg, Gardner, Groton, Harvard, Hudson, Lancaster, Littleton, Lunenburg, Leominster, Maynard, Pepperell, Princeton, Shirley, Sterling, Stow, Townsend and Westminster. There are ground breaks for homes in Ashburnham and Townsend planned for this spring. For more information, visit their Web site www.ncmhabitat.org or contact the Habitat office at (978) 348-2749 or hfhncm@verizon.net. |
